Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup brown sugar, packed

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 teaspoon sea salt flakes (for topping)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

Add in the eggs, one at a time, and mix well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it out evenly.

Drizzle the caramel sauce over the layer of batter, making sure not to reach the edges.

Carefully spoon the remaining batter over the caramel sauce and gently spread it to cover. It’s okay if some caramel is left visible.

Sprinkle the sea salt flakes over the top of the batter.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean (a few moist crumbs are okay).

Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cool, cut into squares or bars and serve. For an extra touch, you can drizzle additional caramel sauce over the top before serving.
