Ingredients

1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

4 cups fresh broccoli florets

1 red bell pepper, sliced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1-inch piece of ginger, grated

3 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1/4 cup beef broth (or water)

1/4 teaspoon black pepper (to taste)

Cooked rice or noodles (for serving)

Instructions

Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, black pepper, and cornstarch. Gradually add beef broth, whisking until smooth and combined. Set aside.

Marinate the Beef: In a medium bowl, toss the sliced flank steak with 1 tablespoon of the sauce mixture (reserve the rest for cooking) and let it marinate for about 15 minutes while you prepare the vegetables.

Heat the Pan: In a large skillet or wok, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.

Cook the Beef: Add the marinated beef to the hot pan in a single layer, allow it to sear for about 2-3 minutes without stirring, then stir-fry for another 2 minutes until browned but not fully cooked. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.

Stir-Fry the Vegetables: In the same pan, add a bit more oil if necessary. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, stir-frying for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Then add the broccoli and red bell pepper. Stir-fry for 4-5 minutes until the broccoli is bright green and tender-crisp.

Combine Ingredients: Return the beef to the pan with the vegetables. Pour the reserved sauce over the beef and broccoli. Stir well to combine all ingredients, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes until the beef is cooked through and the sauce thickens slightly.

Finish with Sesame Oil: Drizzle the sesame oil over the stir-fry just before serving for added flavor.

Serve: Serve the beef and broccoli stir-fry hot over cooked rice or noodles. Enjoy your delicious, one-pan meal!
