Ingredients

1 package (8 oz) of refrigerated crescent roll dough

4 oz sliced ham (thinly sliced)

4 oz Swiss cheese (sliced or shredded)

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 egg (for egg wash)

1 tablespoon of poppy seeds (optional)

Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare the Dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough on a lightly floured surface. Separate it into triangles along the perforated edges.

Spread the Mustard: Lightly spread a small amount of Dijon mustard over each triangle of dough. This adds a zesty flavor that complements the ham and cheese.

Layer the Fillings: Place a slice of ham on the wider end of each triangle, followed by a slice of Swiss cheese. If using shredded cheese, sprinkle a small amount over the ham. Sprinkle a bit of freshly ground black pepper for added taste.

Roll the Croissants: Starting from the wide end, carefully roll up each triangle towards the point to form a croissant shape. Ensure the ham and cheese are tucked in as you roll.

Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk the egg until well combined. Brush the egg mixture over the top of each croissant to give it a golden-brown finish when baked.

Sprinkle with Poppy Seeds: If desired, sprinkle poppy seeds on top of each croissant for an extra crunch and flavor.

Bake: Place the prepared croissants on the lined baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let them cool for a couple of minutes before serving. They are best enjoyed warm, but can also be served at room temperature.
