Ingredients

4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cubed

1/2 cup milk (or heavy cream for extra creaminess)

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

Salt and black pepper, to taste

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (plus extra for topping)

1 pound ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Optional: 1/2 teaspoon paprika for added flavor

Instructions

Cook the Potatoes: In a large pot, add the cubed potatoes and cover them with cold water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Add a pinch of salt and cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender. Drain and return them to the pot.

Mash the Potatoes: Add milk (or heavy cream) and butter to the drained potatoes. Mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt, black pepper, and optional paprika. Adjust the seasoning according to taste. Set aside.

Prepare the Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until the onions are translucent. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Add Flavor: Stir in Worcestershire sauce and cook for another minute. If you like, add a bit of salt and pepper to taste. Once the beef is cooked through, remove from heat.

Combine Mixtures: In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes with the cooked beef mixture, mixing thoroughly. Fold in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese until well incorporated.

Prepare for Baking: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish (9x13 inches works great) and spoon the cheesy beef-stuffed mashed potato mixture into the dish, smoothing the top with a spatula.

Add Cheese Topping: Sprinkle additional shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the mashed potato mixture.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Garnish & Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Garnish with fresh parsley. Serve hot as a hearty, comforting side dish or main course!
