8 oz (225 g) penne pasta

2 cups fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces

1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)

2 cloves garlic, minced

Zest and juice of 1 large lemon

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a kick)

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

    Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente. About 2 minutes before it's done, add the green beans to the pot. Drain the pasta and beans and set them aside.

      Make the Lemon Butter Sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes. Be careful not to let it burn.

        Combine Ingredients: Stir in the lemon zest, lemon juice, heavy cream, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Allow the mixture to come to a gentle simmer for about 2-3 minutes.

          Combine Pasta and Sauce: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked penne and green beans with the lemon butter sauce. Toss well to ensure everything is evenly coated. Mix in 3/4 cup of the grated Parmesan cheese.

            Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the pasta and green bean mixture into a greased 9x13 inch (23x33 cm) baking dish, spreading it evenly.

              Prepare the Topping: In a small bowl, mix the remaining 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs together. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the pasta bake.

                Bake: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crisp.
