Ingredients

Dough:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 cup sour cream

1 large egg, for egg wash

Filling:

1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries, chopped

1/2 cup cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped (optional)

Topping:

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1 tbsp milk or cream (adjust for desired consistency)

Zest of 1 orange

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and mix with a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the sour cream until just combined. Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Make the Filling: In a medium bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until smooth. Fold in the chopped cranberries and nuts (if using). Set aside.

Roll Out the Dough: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Cut the rectangle into 6 equal squares (approximately 4x4).

Assemble the Danishes: Place a generous spoonful of the cranberry filling in the center of each square. Fold the corners of the dough squares toward the center, pinching them together to create a pocket. Place each Danish on the prepared baking sheet.

Egg Wash: Beat the remaining egg and brush it over the tops of each Danish for a golden finish.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the pastries are golden brown and puffed.

Prepare the Glaze: While the Danishes are baking, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and orange zest in a small bowl until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more milk or sugar as needed.

Drizzle and Serve: Once out of the oven, cool the Danishes for a few minutes before drizzling the glaze on top. Serve warm or at room temperature, and enjoy the balance of sweet and savory flavors!
