Ingredients

4 slices of sourdough bread

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese

2 tablespoons truffle oil

2 tablespoons freshly chopped chives

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: crushed garlic clove for extra flavor

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: Spread softened butter evenly on one side of each slice of sourdough bread. This will give your sandwich a beautifully golden crust when grilled.

Mix the Cheeses: In a bowl, combine shredded cheddar and Gruyère cheeses with chopped chives. Add a pinch of salt and pepper to taste. Drizzle in the truffle oil and mix well until all ingredients are well incorporated.

Assemble the Sandwich: Lay two slices of sourdough bread butter-side-down on a clean surface. Generously layer the cheese mixture on top of each slice. Place the remaining two slices of bread (butter-side-up) on top of the cheese to complete the sandwich.

Grill the Sandwich: Preheat your skillet over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the sandwich in the skillet. If desired, you can add a crushed garlic clove to the skillet for extra flavor. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.

Flip and Finish Cooking: Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula. Cook for another 3-4 minutes, pressing down gently to ensure even grilling, until the other side is golden and the cheese is melting.

Let it Rest: Once finished, remove the sandwich from the skillet and let it rest for a minute before slicing. This helps the cheese set slightly so it doesn’t ooze out too quickly.

Serve: Cut the sandwich in half diagonally, and serve warm, possibly with a side of tomato soup or a fresh salad for that gourmet touch. Enjoy the rich flavors of truffle and cheese in every bite!
