Ingredients

2 cans (15 oz each) chickpeas, drained and rinsed

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

4 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 cup vegetable or chicken broth (plus more if needed)

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Chickpeas: In a medium-sized mixing bowl, mash the rinsed chickpeas with a fork or potato masher until you reach a chunky consistency. Set aside.

Sauté Garlic: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 2 minutes, or until fragrant but not browned.

Combine Ingredients: To the skillet with the sautéed garlic, add the smoked paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper. Stir for about 30 seconds to toast the spices.

Mix in Chickpeas: Add the mashed chickpeas to the skillet, stirring to combine with the garlic butter mixture.

Add Broth and Lemon Juice: Pour in the vegetable or chicken broth and lemon juice. Stir to combine everything well. Allow the mixture to cook over low heat for about 5-7 minutes until heated through, stirring occasionally. If the mash is too thick, you can add more broth to achieve your desired consistency.

Adjust Seasoning: Taste the mash and adjust the seasoning if necessary, adding more salt, pepper, or lemon juice as per your preference.

Garnish and Serve: Once done, remove from heat, and transfer the Chickpea Mash to a serving bowl. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
