4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

2 large apples, cored and sliced (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

1 large onion, thinly sliced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup chicken broth

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon fresh sage or 1 teaspoon dried sage

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon honey (optional for added sweetness)

Fresh sage leaves for garnish

Prep the Chicken: Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and ground cinnamon on both sides.

    Sauté the Onion and Garlic: In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil. Once hot, add the sliced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.

      Layer Ingredients in Crockpot: Place the sautéed onion and garlic mixture at the bottom of the Crockpot. Layer the sliced apples on top of the onions. Place the seasoned chicken breasts over the apples.

        Add Liquid and Herbs: Pour in the chicken broth and drizzle honey over the chicken (if using). Sprinkle the sage evenly over the top.

          Cook: Cover the Crockpot and cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6-7 hours, until the chicken is tender and cooked through.

            Serve: Shred the chicken slightly with two forks and stir it together with the apples and sauce. Serve warm, garnished with fresh sage leaves.
