8 oz (about 225g) penne pasta

1 lb (450g) Italian sausage (mild or hot, based on preference)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 red bell pepper, sliced

1 yellow bell pepper, sliced

1 small onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup (240ml) chicken broth

1 cup (240ml) heavy cream

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for extra heat)

Salt and pepper to taste

½ cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions
 

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot, cook the penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

    Brown the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the Italian sausage. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through (about 5-7 minutes). Transfer the sausage to a plate and set aside.

      Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, add olive oil. Sauté the diced onion, red bell pepper, and yellow bell pepper until they soften (approximately 4-5 minutes). Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.

        Create the Sauce: Pour in the chicken broth, scraping any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Stir in heavy cream, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low.

          Combine Ingredients: Add the cooked sausage back to the skillet along with the drained pasta. Toss everything together gently until the pasta is well coated in the creamy sauce.

            Finish the Dish: Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, and mix until melted and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

              Garnish & Serve: Remove from heat and garnish with fresh basil leaves. Serve immediately.
