Ingredients

1 loaf of cinnamon raisin bread (about 14-16 slices)

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup maple syrup (plus extra for serving)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup raisins

1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

Prepare the Bread: Slice the cinnamon raisin bread into cubes (around 1-inch pieces). Place half of the bread cubes in an even layer at the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle half of the raisins and nuts (if using) over the bread layer.

Whisk the Egg Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, maple syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and salt until well combined.

Combine Bread and Mixture: Pour half of the egg mixture evenly over the first layer of bread. Then add the remaining bread cubes on top, followed by the remaining raisins and nuts. Pour the rest of the egg mixture over everything, making sure to cover all the bread evenly.

Soak the Bread: Gently press down the bread cubes with a spatula to ensure they soak up the egg mixture. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and let it sit for at least 30 minutes, or refrigerate overnight for best results.

Bake: Remove the plastic wrap and cover the dish with aluminum foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden brown and set.

Serve: Once baked, allow the French toast bake to cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar if desired, and serve warm with maple syrup drizzled on top.

Enjoy: Slice into squares and serve your delicious Cinnamon Raisin French Toast Bake for a delightful breakfast or brunch treat!
