Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate, your choice)

1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Mix the Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy and well combined. This should take about 2-3 minutes. Next, add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine the Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well mixed.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix – a few flour streaks are okay!

Fold in the Chocolate Chips and Nuts: With a spatula, gently fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Transfer to the Baking Pan: Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula or the back of a spoon.

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (but not wet batter).

Cool and Slice: Once baked, remove the pan from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes. Then, lift the cookie bars out of the pan (if using parchment paper) and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack. Cut into squares once cooled.

Serve and Enjoy: Enjoy your chewy chocolate chip cookie bars warm, at room temperature, or even chilled for a unique twist!
