Ingredients

1 cup fresh blackberries

3-4 fresh sage leaves, plus extra for garnish

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4-6 lemons)

4 cups water

Ice cubes

Lemon slices, for garnish

Optional: sparkling water for a fizzy twist

Instructions

Make the Blackberry Sage Syrup:

    - In a small saucepan, combine the blackberries, sage leaves, and granulated sugar with 1 cup of water.

      - Heat over medium heat, stirring gently until the sugar dissolves and the blackberries start to break down, about 5-7 minutes.

        - Remove from heat and let the mixture sit for 10 minutes to steep the sage and allow the flavors to meld.

          Strain the Syrup:

            - Once the mixture has cooled slightly, strain it through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl or pitcher to remove the blackberry seeds and sage leaves. Use a spoon to press out as much liquid as possible. You should have a vibrant purple syrup.

              Prepare the Lemonade Base:

                - In a large pitcher, combine the freshly squeezed lemon juice and 3 cups of cold water. Adjust to your taste preference; you can add more water or simple syrup if it's too tart.

                  Combine and Chill:

                    - Add the blackberry sage syrup to the lemonade mixture and stir well to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness as desired.

                      - Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill.

                        Serve:

                          - To serve, fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the blackberry sage lemonade over the ice, and if desired, top with a splash of sparkling water for a refreshing fizz.

                            - Garnish each glass with a lemon slice and a sprig of fresh sage.

                              Enjoy!

                                - Sip on your delightful Blackberry Sage Lemonade while enjoying sunny days or hosting friends!
