Ingredients

4 pounds boneless pork shoulder

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon smoked paprika

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon onion powder

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for spice preference)

2 teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 cup apple cider vinegar

1 cup chicken broth

1 cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)

8 soft hamburger buns

Coleslaw (for topping)

Pickles (optional, for topping)

Instructions

Prepare the Pork:

    - Pat the pork shoulder dry with paper towels. In a small bowl, mix together the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Rub this spice mixture all over the pork shoulder.

      Sear the Pork:

        - In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the seasoned pork shoulder and sear on all sides until browned, about 4-5 minutes per side. This step helps to lock in the flavors.

          Slow Cook:

            - Transfer the seared pork into a slow cooker. Pour the apple cider vinegar and chicken broth over the pork. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is fork-tender and easily shreds.

              Shred the Pork:

                - Once cooked, carefully remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Use two forks to shred the pork into bite-sized pieces. Discard any excess fat.

                  Mix with BBQ Sauce:

                    - Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir in the BBQ sauce. Allow it to heat on low for an additional 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

                      Assemble the Sandwiches:

                        - Toast the hamburger buns lightly, if desired. Pile generous amounts of the pulled pork on the bottom half of each bun. Top with coleslaw and pickles if using. Place the top half of the bun on each sandwich.

                          Serve:

                            - Serve the sandwiches warm with extra BBQ sauce on the side, and enjoy your delicious homemade BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches!
