Ingredients

3 medium-sized apples (such as Fuji or Honeycrisp)

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

A pinch of salt

Cooking spray or parchment paper for baking sheets

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 225°F (110°C). This low temperature will help dehydrate the apples slowly.

Prepare the Apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Using a mandoline slicer or a sharp knife, slice the apples very thinly, about 1/8 inch thick. Remove any seeds if they remain in the slices.

Mix Cinnamon Sugar: In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. If using, add the vanilla extract for an extra layer of flavor.

Coat the Apple Slices: Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Lightly spray the slices with cooking spray or brush them with a very light coating of oil to help the cinnamon sugar adhere. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the apple slices.

Bake the Chips: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 1.5 to 2 hours. Flip the apple slices halfway through to ensure even baking. The chips are ready when they are dry and crisp but still slightly bend without breaking.

Cool and Store: Once done, remove the apple chips from the oven and let them cool completely. They will become crunchier as they cool. Store in an airtight container to maintain crispness.

Serve and Enjoy: Enjoy your homemade baked cinnamon sugar apple chips as a healthy snack or a delightful addition to salads and desserts!
